Where is the name Elma coming from?

I was just browsing through a couple of sites and I noticed the name Elma being used as the name for Laharl's Mom. Does anyone know where people are suddenly getting the name Elma from cuz as far as I know, she's been known either as Big Sis Prinny, Laharl's Mom, or Mama.

I have no idea where Elma is coming from.

In the novels, I'm pretty sure that the character named Ven was supposed to have been Laharl's mom, or at least it was heavily implied. But the novels don't necessarily fit the official game canon.

In the On Love pullout, her name is clearly labeled as Ven:

You're right, in the Revelations pullout, she's only labeled as "Laharl's Mom." But On Love came out later. ;)

Ah... actually, I always thought it was Ven, but then I came across someone using Gwen, so with further checking (and I just redouble checked now with a friend who knows moonspeak) that it might be actually "Gwen"

...Which does fit with the english names for human characters theme. :Oa

Oh thank God, "Gwen" sounds so, so much better than "Ven."

I've never seen the ヴ used to represent a "gw" sound before. But then again, I wouldn't be surprised if it frequently is used that way, owing to the general WTFery of katakana and all.

Oh, but that's not ヴ there, it's spelled with a グ! The font is kind of stylized and threw me off--I had to double-take. First I saw ヴ too, but Vesuvio's name is spelled with the proper katakana. Then I saw ワ with tenten which- which doesn't exist!?

... pretty sure it's "Gwen", yes! XD

Way better. o/ It was hilarious for me actually. I love the name Gwen. It's what I usually name my female warrior. Lol

I'd also babelfished the reviews of the book from amazon.jp one day and one mentions that "the mother of the laharl is written" ...lol. Oh babelfish. None-the-less, sounds like that's definitely who it is.

...I want this book translated so much. T_T

Hm... I've been wondering this too. Sounds like it's just fanon.

Elma -> L ma -> Laharl mama?

/uneducated guess

Though given fandom's ability to come up with mashed up names... I wouldn't be surprised.
