Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten officially announced

Prinny Bomb has confirmed the subtitle which was earlier revealed on the forum and the official U.S. site is now up:

* Dis-name-a contest: Similar to the contests held in Japan. You choose the names of characters and skills, but it also mentions items.
* NISA main character names: Valvatorez (Valbatoze) and Fuka (Fuuka). The prison is also called Hades (Jigoku or Hell in Japan). According to the links below, Volcano's name will be Vulcanus. Fenrich, Emizel, and Desco's names remain the same.
* Official cover on the product info page. Although it uses the same image as the "fake" cover that was posted earlier, Volcano, Desco, Axel, and Nemo have been removed and Flonne has been moved to the spot where Volcano originally was.

Maybe, but I'm guessing it's referring specifically to Val's biggest promise -- his promise to not drink blood. I kinda agree with taiga, though. It does sound cheesy for a Disgaea subtitle.

Then how about this for a subtitle Disgaea 4:Fury of Promise, or Disgaea 4:Promise of Oblivion, or Disgaea 4: Sins of Promises, I like that one.

I don't like the subtitle but it's not that bad, on the other hand Valvatorez? o_O I prefer Valvatoze much more, now I fear for the american names of Fenrich, Desco and Volcano.

Fenrich and Desco stay the same, I believe. Volcano is, like the former archangel, Vulcanus.

I don't think NISA would be stupid enough to have her name pronounced that way though I do feel like they should have left the the extra "u" in. It just looks better in my opinion.

I guess it because that's how NI translated it in the merchandise and in the credits, but NISA doesn't always stick to the "original" names and for good reason most of the time.

I've really gotten used to Axel and it's still better than Octalley.

I'm of the mind that I like Valvatorez. It just rolls off the tongue so much better than Valbatoze. That "b" trips up too often.

Meh at subtitle and Fuka though.

I don't know, leaving a double "uu" is slightly awkward to pronounce, especially if you're not used to it.

Just FYI, Valvatorez is the official spelling as shown in the Japanese Disgaea 4 manual. The only one that's really off in the manual is Fenrich.

Looking at how its sounded out (va-ru-ba-tou-ze), the localized version isn't actually that bad. The extended vowel ”－”　after ”ト” is more often than not used for names in which an r or l come after a vowel (Kirk -->　カーク) and from what I remember ”ゼ” is usually for terms ending in a strong s or z. With all that, I think NIS got the romanization well.

Also, in the Japanese manual "Desco" is romanized as "Deathko" (Death Child) which is what I knew they were going for when she was first introduced. Of course, that would look weird in English and maybe a bit too obvious about her status so I'm fine with Desco.

The thing with Desco is that while manual and the credits romanize her name as Deathko, it's actually spelled in-game as Desco and the name itself is an acronym. I'm not sure if NISA changed it, but according to her profile before it was removed, it stood for "Death Extermination Submersible Combat Organism".
