I don't know much about him yet. What you wrote about him piqued my curiosity so I checked youtube videos about him.
I see that he used the same voice type for Edward and Mao ;;. I know he has tons of fangirl although that surprises me, I thought most anime fans watched subs instead of dubs.

I heard both Japanese and English D3 voices. There are some major differences especially in Mao/Geoffrey/Sapphire. Sapphire english voice acting made her look like an "always sleepy" girl. In the Japanese voice she's much more emotive and expresses anger when she's attacking her enemies. Both Almaz's voices don't have many differences, but I remember that in Japanese Almaz lets out high-pitched screams when he is scared. Overall, the english cast is good so there's no shame in liking it!
I understand why the story wasn't your cup of tea even though I enjoyed it.
I can see its flaws, the mix between humor and drama was very unbalanced IMO. And unlike Disgaea1, (where the characters travel to various places and change the subject several times) in Disgaea 3 the characters never truly get out of the Evil Academy, furthermore the majority of the plot is focused on exploring Mao's heart hahah.

Yess, it's amazing how a voice can say so much about a personality.

And no worries, I ramble a lot too :>.
