Disgaea 3 Speculations

...Well, Nippon Ichi Software refuses to update with news of any sort as of late, so let's take the time and evaluate what little we have. (What very, very, very little we have.) I like hearing your ideas, so think of this of the Sequel! to "What Would you Like To See in Disgaea 3?")

THINGS WE KNOW OR SPECULATE ABOUT DISGAEA 3
(A small guide, I guess.)

- There is a definitive School Setting in this game, screenshots provided show ruins of a school as well as a classroom setting where you can go to individual rooms and different classes. One being Home Room.


Disregard the combo attack, look at the background. Bulletin boards, presumably from a school.

- The Main characters are students. They wear uniforms to school.

- They are both also demons.

- There are THREE main characters, we can not figure out who the second one is yet. "An Overlord's Child, a Hero, and a Girl." We can assume the first and third one, the second one is a msytery.

- The SHADOW in the picture could be a bad guy or a mid-boss. For now, he shall be codenamed NEGADUCK because he looks like a duck to me.



- THESE are the Main Character Sprites so far



- The setting, not only is it a School one, could also be a city setting. A theme in the game could be 'time' because of the abundance of clocks found in the promotional postcard. OH SNAP!11?



- There is a shadowing figure on top of the building. It bears a striking resemblance to ASH, the main character of Phantom Brave. It could also be a new character.



WITH THIS INFORMATION - What do you WANT TO SEE from Disgaea 3 now? What are your thoughts and speculations on this perhaps supposed "theme" and characters so far? Come on, give me your wildest thoughts and ideas. We'll compensate for Nippon Ichi being a fag and not updating or posting and news about it. ;O;

I AM TAKING A NEUTRAL STANDPOINT IN THIS MATTER, MOSTLY FOR MY SANITY AND MOSTLY BECAUSE THIS IS A DISCUSSION POST FOR YOU ALL, NOT FOR ME. :(

It's Gakuen Disgaea tiem, guys. I wonder how many more High School AU stories will this game produce?

It's hard for me to explain what I'm expecting from the new Disgaea, since I thought the first battle system couldn't have been improved, and then Disgaea 2 blew that away. Now I wonder how Disgaea 2 is going to be outdone, which to me doesn't seem possible. I'm hoping the battle system in 3 will be similar to the one in the first two installments, but if Disgaea 3 is to motivate me to go out and buy a PS3, then there better be a LOT of improvments from the first (graphics, cut scenes, attacks, etc).

Story wise, I think this is a school-based story as well, perhaps taking place in a world comparable to the real world, but inhabited by demons.

NEGADUCK could be some dude with a killer Yosemitie Sam mustache, a teacher/professor, ally or foe. I think it's too early to decide on which.

The shadowy figure that looks like Ash... yeah, the resemblance is there but since this is Disgaea 3 and not Phantom Brave 2, I'm ruling out the odds of it being Ash and leaning more towards a Laharl cameo.

Anyone else notice the prominent fashion statement made with scarves? Maybe the type or color of scarf a character wears designates their rank and/or class? That'd be sorta nifty to see done.

I just get the feeling they wouldn't make Laharl that fuzzy, and well, clothed. I just don't get the feeling it's him. And while it is a Disgaea title, PB characters (all sans Ash, how ironic) have appeared in other games. Even Walnut is a main character now (playable, at that.) in Soul Nomad. But who knows what they'll do? I think it's so cruel they'd give us a teaser in the first promo image and then totally don't update about it. :x We're curious bugs.

Of course, looked in another way, it could be some human with a frilly hairstyle. Like King Krichevskoy but less hardcore.

And then there's the scarf

That's also what people said about Pram in Makai Kingdom.
I'm assuming it's just a random overlord that the main character of the son of. There are more out there.

And if that guy's another overlord, I wonder what kind he would be. They have just about every kind in the Nippon Ichiverse, though he could also be the headmaster of that school!

I don't see the connection either in Laharl and Flonne having a kid and it randomly having white hair though. Then again, who knows. XD;;

The clocks interested me because... I honestly couldn't tell what they were in the first image and then - suddenly! Clocks, everywhere! Could just be a stylistic environment for the game, though. Kind of like Kingdom Hearts, I guess.

Well, true, it could just be the clock deal with school, you know, "GET IN CLASS ON TIME OR WE'RE ARE GOING TO SHANK YOU!!" ideal.

That's true, the clock theme could fit in but it also seems set in a city environment. On a similar note, I like how it looks like the main character in the original image looks like he's standing ontop of a record player (or is it just me?)

Yeah more than anything I'm hoping Ash gets the cameo he so rightfully deserves~ Maybe even a semi-main character like Etna in Disgaea 2?

But yeah other than that they really need to make it worth getting a PS3 over, from the supposed screenshots we've seen so far, there's no reason it couldn't be on PS2 with the graphics the way they are. Maybe they could have actual 3D characters but make them all cel-shaded and cute so they look just as good as their sprite counterparts??

I just have no idea why they didn't cameo him at all yet. He's the only main character that hasn't gotten a cameo post-disgaea! It's also not that the fans don't like them, a lot of people on gpara forums are talking about what if it's him and seem excited, so I have no idea.

I'm hoping the content in game will be enough to barely have it on the PS3. Hoping,and all that.

Main character isn't wearing a scarf though, the thing dangling from his cape thing isn't really a cape, it's just his school jacket used as a cape. What's dangling is the sleeve, see? :O

Prof. Flonne would be an extremely dangerous think to be had, you know.

You know on second glance, I think that Negaduck might be female. The "scarf thing" looks more like a ribbon on the back, making the bump in the front his/her chest.
