Interview About Disgaea D2's Development
On Dengeki there's a new article that's an interview about the development of DD2.

Looks kinda interesting from what I can make out with Chrome, but hoping to see if I can talk sweetly to any of my Japanese knowing friends to see if they can figure out some of the answers a little more clearly.
This does include them talking about Disgaea D2's timeline and mentioning 3 years after Disgaea and about them worrying about consistency with the first game.

TIME TO START BEING LAZY WITH RP ACCOUNTS AGAIN
"Regarding consistency with (the original) Disgaea, we were really worried about our illustrator, Harada Takehito-san. We say Disgaea D2 takes place three years later, but the Netherworld is packed with people many thousands of years old, isn't it? And looking at them, Laharl and co. are also over 1,000 years old (laughs).
With that thought in mind, three years is just a blink of time in the Netherworld! Saying that, we did want to request "somehow, please make it look as though Laharl and co. have grown", but that was completely unreasonable to ask, we thought. In the end, we received the wonderful designs we have now, I'm very happy."
SO... as Ruby said to me, seems they were even kinda frustrated by the aging thing. lol I think only Laharl kinda comes across older than what makes sense... it seems like he's had a growth spurt. lol XD
Then the other interesting bit... Re: Laharl-chan
"In the time between announcement and launch, there was a lot of talk amongst the fans about this female Laharl. Who was it that came up with this idea?"
"There was a little talk here and there at the time about female characters, but it felt like it became an Official Thing when Arakawa himself asked "how about we turn him into a girl?"
Ruby didn't directly translate the next bit but said: before the story was completely settled on/gathered together, they wanted a lot of humorous moments and silly moments. But by the time they had got the plot together they found the story was... actually lacking a bit in humor. |D;; So they asked, "Okay, so Laharl wakes up one day and he's a girl. What do?"
So... Laharl-chan really was largely added for shits and giggles, I guess. lmao XD
