Disgaea 2 Vol. 4: A Trio Reunited and Hekaton Ships LxE (Chapter 4)

Yes, I know some of you have dreaded it ever since my quick synopsis post, but this is THE chapter. *sigh* Can't wait for the comments on this one...

Oh and please excuse me for sounding so tired/bored. I'm just completely drained today from my philosophy class...

If you remember from last time, Laharl and Etna agreed to hold off Zenon's Rifle Demon while Adell chases after Zenon. Most people would not want to mess with something this big...


But it doesn't stop Laharl and Etna from turning this into a game of "Who Can Kick It's Ass Before the Other Schmuck Does".


Either Laharl and Etna are seriously broken or that Rifle Demon was meant to be some giant punching bag.


Maybe it's both. And I've always liked Hanako, but I really love her after going through this volume. Hekaton makes her so cute in this one.


Unfortunately, while Laharl and Etna are fighting the Rifle Demon and Adell chases Zenon, Shura and Serion are, as Laharl would say it, "biting the dust".


However, there isn't any hint of sadness in them. The two seeing Mama and Papa brings back memories of Holt Village...


Memories of Adell, who used to be this little boy...


Their son. To tell the truth, though, the way Hekaton drew Shura is almost EXACTLY the way I envisioned him. Opened shirt? Check. Loosened tie? Check. Baggy pants? Check. Bare feet? Check. Adell's hair but messier and without the ahoge? Check. Cigarette? DOUBLE CHECK! As for Serion, she definitely belongs in NI's prestigious line of amazingly beautiful moms, right up there with Mama, Laharl's Mom, Cherie, and Jasmine.


To this day, I still don't get how Adell never notices his ears.


Oh, so that's where all the fan service went. And I thought Hekaton losing his touch.

Now we're back to the Rifle Demon here, and Laharl and Etna aren't even paying attention to it anymore.


Honestly, one of them could've easily destroyed it just by blinking.


What's this? Etna blushing?

To LaharlxFlonne shippers: Be happy Hekaton threw in a big white censor bar for you all. YAY FOR CENSORSHIP!


Regardless, the original Disgaea trio is once again reunited, though I kind of agree with dark_chao. Flonne, within her flower filled mind, is probably plotting to break them up.

It ends with Laharl and Etna hopefully finishing it off once and for all, but how much do you wanna bet it's gonna get up again?


Pretty cool of Hekaton to invite some of the 4koma and comic anthology artists for this Next Episode. And isn't this like the fifth DBZ Next Episode in this entire manga?

And now we're halfway through the manga. We've got three more chapters plus the bonus chapter before we reach the end of the entire Disgaea 2 manga.

And yet Hekaton once again does a better job than the game, this time by giving the Disgaea trio some importance in the plot. Another one of the problems I had with Disgaea 2 is that it was pretty much billed as THE sequel to Disgaea, especially will NI flaunting Etna around like she's a major part of the main cast. Yet, it turned out she could've been taken out altogether without changing the plot of the game. Seriously, she was more of a cameo with SOME relation to the plot. Luckily, Hekaton reintroduces the conflict with Laharl at the beginning of the manga while still stressing the importance of Adell's story. It's especially nice to actually see Etna reonciling with Laharl rather than just forcing us to assume she does, and they actually bring Flonne in on it too. I'm also happy that Hekaton gives us that image of Adell's real family and that it seems like that they really regained their memories rather than be all like "Hey, we think we were real demons and we think you look like our son, but we really don't know so we're just going to die."

Then again, maybe I'm just being too harsh on Disgaea 2 and should go play it again. Regardless, I really love the manga. As for the kiss...I'll wait for the comments on this. I'm pretty much dead at this point. Oh and expect everything to be scanned by Sunday.

He's not supposed to have demon ears!
Harada noted in the Adell sketch that his ears are human, they're just always hidden under his hair. There's nothing out of the ordinary about them! This really makes me go whattttt?!?! because Hekaton SEEMS to have read up on D2 a lot and he would have noticed it when he read Adell's sketch profile.

I mean, unless I'm totally missing something?!?!

It says it there, that his ears are normal underneath the hair. If you have the English book, they also translated that sketch to reflect that.

I had no clue there was a note of that,about Adel's ears.Still find it funny Hekaton showed his ears at all,because in the sketches,in-game art and offical artwork you don't see them at all.

*fingersnap!* That's it! Me and my friends kept feeling how the last chapter with him especially in the skull outfit made him look like Mao, but wasn't the glasses it was his dot eyes... add the lack of eyebrows (he also had those in the first book... wth) and you get Mao. lol

Yeah, it's probably aiming more for the forehead. I guess it's was the panels leading up to the kiss made me think that she was aiming for the cheek.

I'm glad Hetakon decided to give the original trio more importance in the story, I mean unless you really dove into the game Flonne doesn't even have a role...and Laharl only makes a momentary appearance...(i didn't enjoy the dotted eyes though =( makes him seem too cartoon-like, i mean he is the original main character.)

Unless there's something that we're all missing, I'm pretty sure the game mentioned that Shura and Serion, Adell's real parents, were true demons, so it's either Adell's really a demon or one of his parents is half human. What I do remember is that they had that running joke about Rozalin questioning whether Adell was a demon since he kept getting all these Overlord-ish titles.

I wonder why Adell has normal human ears then. I always figured they were pointy, too, and that's why you never see them. :/ Hm. I love Hekaton's versions of his parents. They're adorable. Aaa~ I'd read a side comic starring them for sure. ;A;
