You're reminding me that I need to try to work on my japanese again. I wanted to take a stab at it, but I get the feeling two sessions is not enough.

I'm debating what La Pucelle end route to assume as canon in the FttK! verse. Since Priere basically is crazy from Disgaea 1-3 (and is starting to come out of it during the timeframe of Disgaea 3 Rasberyl mode, judging from her more thoughtful classroom comments) I think that this end, where Croix dies, might be what's canon.

Still, the Let's Play I'm getting my info of La Pucelle offered another alternative, where Priere inadvertently descends into madness whist searching for Criox post game.

Gah, they both suck! Obviously, I don't like Bad Ends. But I want to do something with her, because the parallel between two human overlords is too much to ignore in a story like mine.

Well, NI has been pedaling back recently with said classroom comments as well as her extra scene with Dark Eclair in Dark Hero Days and cameo appearance Prinny 2 indicating that they're now following the good ending of the Overlord Priere route ~~Ask taiga more about that.~~

As for what's being said, I was able to make out a few things. At one point, Noir tells Croix that Priere became an Overlord and gave up becoming the Maiden of Light for his sake and the realization that she did this for him makes him lose it completely. It sounds like Noir planned this in order draw the full power of the darkness in the Dark Prince's heart, the power of the Fallen Angel Calamity. Noir then gives Priere the sadistic choice of fighting Croix. Sadly, she mortally wounds him and his dying words are filled regret knowing that he failed to save Angelica and caused Priere's fall.

I wasn't aware of a Good end for that scenario... hmm... I must investigate this...

Still, Bad End holds a lot of potential too...

Did someone ask for the good end scenario? Because I can totally provide... well half-provide~

Basically me playing the game here, the three first entries are me going for the good end. I don't know what happens in text, but there's the gist of it...

If only there were more cut scenes up on youtube or nicovideo. While I definitely do understand Japanese, I can definitely pick out some things and figure out what exactly is going on.

The artwork is really nice. I think this is the best I've seen out of all his Ragnarok art. Still would have been nice if he could've toned Prier down even a little bit...

And the good ending is very sweet. I swear, NIS is weird like this. They set up really sweet, satisfying endings - but then they offset them with alternate endings that show just how freaking horrifying the world could have been if they had even made the slightest mistake or misjudgment. But in the case of a character who, for years, we've assumed the worst for, they take the first real chance they can get to toss her a life-raft. I dunno if they're soft or just kind.

Probably kind. After all, the second-to-last bad end battle is pretty freaking scary, what with that delusion Prier is under and how easy you can screw it up. It's definitely up there in terms of what NIS has done - probably a distant third to Disgaea 2 bad end (#2 - the pool of blood is what gets me there) and Demon Path (#1 - hoo boy). Disgaea 3 bad end is less frightening, more tragic.

Yeah, typical N1 ending theory here. It's either an awesomely good ending, or, at the very best bittersweet if not outright OMGWTFISTHIS?

But yeah, that was pretty much my reaction to the good ending, finally something good for Prier, even if it took a long while and a couple of personality retcons to get there. Now... we only have to wait and see if N1 is gonna push out the two sequels or if they got canceled in their money troubles.

Haha, oh god the Demon Path... that's all I have to say about that.

Which is surprising that Disgaea 4 actually lacks such an ending.

Specifically, she's like that to EVERYBODY. That's the only explanation for the outfit.

Oh man, now I'm picturing Adell and Croix sitting at a bar all sad faced with drinks going "WOMEN!"

That is a hilarious image and I heartily endorse it.

Funniest part? Only one couch.

I think it's brown. Nomura probably just colored it that way due to the sunset.

But I find the similarities kinda fascinating. Both games involve a red headed protagonist who mainly fights with punches and kicks ~~forget the baton for now~~, hunts demons, gains Overlord titles against their will, and when their love interest dies they go off and turn everything within sight into a sea of blood. Their love interests both wield guns and harbor a powerful being which gets unleashed when the main character's life is in danger.

Hmmm, I was just wondering, since you're able to make out a few things, have you ever tried with the D2 DLC that wasn't translated?

Though, this entire conversation reminded me of the Prier/Eclair scene and how it looked like N1 finally dropped the SoB!Prier act with this one... hmm, maybe I should get my notes and try it out.

Would this take place after the current story (Like a separate arc of some sort) or will it be woven into it?

See, since it's my first fic, I greatly underestimated how long every chapter would be in order to make the story points I planned. A lot of things I've introduced, such as OCs like Lt Vincent, are there for late-story pay-off.

I've got a dramatic, "sadistic choice" type arc in the works, as well as a more lighthearted couple of ideas involving Prier. But after finally reading the LP I was planning on combining the two. Yes, comedy AND tragedy offset against each other, I'm crazy like that.

As a result, FttK! is gonna be pretty long. I'm not going to drop it, for reasons outlined in the first chapter, but still, long haul here. For perspective, we're just about to finish 'Part One' of the fic, once I'm done in Veldime. Currently, there are 4 Parts total. This arc could have enough meat for a 5th part in the middle there.

(and I want to be all >:( at you for not reviewing but hell, I haven't reviewed or anything for months because of college, so you get a pass on account of me not being a hypocrite :D)

Knowing where (or actually IF) this ending is set/connected with the NI timeline would be really ncie,as I'm also trying the hard job of actually DO a timeline. (So far I'mhaving trouble with that, Soul Nomad cause I haven't played it, and troubles with Phantom Brave thanks to some weird think about the ressurection of the main threat happened in another game and blah blah blah)

And yeah, after trying to form a timeline to use in the series myself, I can say for certain how difficult it is, even just for the main 3 Disgaea games. For instance, I'm pretty sure Yukimaru mentions that she's 20 in Disgaea 3... which logically means (the postgame of) 3 takes place at the same time/immediately after 2.

Guh, at this point I've pretty much given up on sticking to absolute canon - to the point where I'm probably going to have Trenia explicitly state that the entire thing is an AU of canon that is being manipulated by a higher power. When pressed for what that power is, she'll admit it's a 'lizard'. Because if ANYONE is aware of it being a fanfic, it'd be Trenia.

I got the materials collection for D3, and Laharl and co ages are exactly the same as in D2 as well, so yeah, that makes sense.

Absolute canon is too hard for N1, especially since time travel, phantom doubles, and even alternate universe are canon. (though that last one is a bit iffy).

Rather tough to figure out canon when they have literally answered a plothole with "a crazy ghost witch from another dimension did it" before.

However... answering every plothole with "Lujei did it" sounds like the least farfetched idea from N1.

Wow, that jacks with things for me, even though I'm already AU.

In GHQ, I borrowed the two year time gap between 2 and 3--I could retcon it, except for the fact that a huge future plot point that the events of Negima happened at the SAME TIME as D2. I AM blending the universe in the first place, not to mention ridiculous time inconsistencies already present in both canons.

The first Prinny game is canon, with Laharl's death faked (thanks Averrunicus of fire! ~Etna)

Same for me. It's long been established in my fic that the whole Zenon thing happened 2-3 years ago. So much effort to preserve the timeline and it turns out I've been out of the running for 6 months now...

To be exact, i'm pretty sure D3 happens before if not at the same time as D2, as well as the post game gotta happen after or at least on the latter half of D2. the reason lies on the DLC of the PSP ver. sicne, if I recall correctly, Almaz and Sapphire are already married when recruited.
another interesting note is that Makai Kingdom must happen at the same time as ALMOST all NI games, incluying D1, 2 and 3. It's the only way to explain why Zetta is still in book form in all those games while having his normal body in D4's post-game

Well, one COULD argue that Almaz and Sapphire were summoned from the future - after all, so was Demon Lord Hanako, and Marona was summoned from a game...

But most likely factor is, after D3's final battle, there's a timeskip of a few months or so, during which the events of Disgaea 2 occur and wrap up. Afterwards, when everything is calm in Veldime, the D3 crowd solve post-game stuff while hiring new teachers.
