Deep Burning Question
I am wondering, has anyone here read the light novels? I fell upon an entry on TV Tropes regarding them, and it blew my mind. I have burning questions and am illiterate in Japanese. Is there anyone out there?
And if this is not allowed, please do not hesitate to slap me. D:
I read on TV tropes that Laharl's Aunt Yasurl/Yasuruu is responsible for Laharl's aversion to busty women. What exactly did she do to him?! D:

Hmmm... she did give Flonne medicine in the game which was by no order... and the lack of her "dood"ing, does seem to hint she is kind of special... of course, by time we see her in game, she long since worked off her debt so, that could have something to do with it. lol But orz t-that sucks. DX Makes me think of that one lil' comic with Laharl and prinny!mama.
Yes. ;-; Absolutely.
This is all so weird in a way... I've been headcanoning for awhile the idea that Krichevskoy had major parenting fail when his mother died. Course, this far exceeded what we'd thought of, but yeah. @__@ The thought that Krich struggled for awhile since 1. Laharl does resemble his mother and 2. Laharl was the cause of his mother's death. Not that Krich would blame him for it... but a little resentment might have been there. :(
Gads, this deepens the abandonment issue he has too. :( Mother 'abandons him' .. then his father abandons him for 100 years... @__@
Definitely a true blue miracle at works here.

Good point on the Flonne thing. I wish N1 would give us an explanation on how different the non-dooding prinnies are(Asagi, Laharl, Kurtis etc...), since they seem to have a higher degree of freedom than the normal prinnies...I guess it's possible that Gwen was an exception as well.
Same here. The first thing that came to mind when I read about Gwen in the Reincarnation chapter was "How would Kri face Laharl when he was the cause for Gwen's death?", I guess the novel answered that by having Kri take the third option of not dealing with it at all. I do wonder if Kri ever tried making it up to Laharl somehow, or if Laharl just completely closed himself off to his father after that. Damn, that wouldn't be pleasant for Gwen to witness either. The family's gotten pretty messed up after Gwen's death ._.
When I look at Laharl from that perspective, he suddenly seems a lot more mentally mature than his spoiled brat attitude would credit him for (which is probably caused by that period in his life anyways). I could sort of see it within the game, but this just drives home the point.
And talking about abandonment issues, I haven't seen this touched upon in the novel yet, but since he genuinely likes Gordon and Jennifer, it's probably not going to be sunshine and rainbows when they live out their human lifespan and bite the dust.D:

Mmm... well, hopefully D4 might shed some light given that it seems they'll be talking a lot more about the creation of prinnies in it. *A*
I'd imagine he tried, but by that point there was undoubtedly a huge wall between them. D: and seemed like Kri seemed to think Laharl was just giving him demon answers or whatever. I guess he never thought to look deeper... That... really wouldn't either. orz They really, really did. ;-;
Oh yes. Laharl is a lot more mature than some people give him credit for. (Although which voice track kinda has a big impact on that perception too.) He's horribly bratty sometimes, and surprisingly mature in others. And, while he always seems crazy in other cameos, he's pretty much the SANE one in Disgaea. He spends half the game exasperated at everyone else. XD It's definitely there in the game. :3 But yes, it does certainly. D:
Aww, yeah. D: Far as I gather later novels are 100 years in the future and he like... goes into the past to get their help or something? lol

lol I'm of the opinion that his character has undergone some mysterious decay in his cameos.XD It's like N1 played his bratty attitude way over the top and forgot to give him the maturity he held in Disgaea 1.(the incident that really stood out to me was when he requested the reapers to guide Kurtis's soul to his family) Blowing up a planet is undoubtedly crazy awesome and all, but it didn't seem like the actions of someone who held back when destroying 2 million spaceships just so the passengers could escape. I feel like his treatment is getting worse and worse with each of his cameos.XDDD Wonder if they're going to make him even crazier in D4...
On Love involves a crap load of time traveling. There's Laharl ending up in his mother's time, Gwen ending up in (from her perspective) the future Netherworld, and Laharl jumping onto Gordon's ship and crossing space and time to return to the future.XD And Gordon has finally been promoted from 'Overlord's slave' to 'Overlord's butler'! lol

...OMG, you are exactly on the same page as me. That's exactly my opinion too. Etna and Flonne... especially Etna, haven't faired too well either as Cameos have gone by. Laharl's isn't as severe, but you reaaaalllllly gotta read between his words to try to make sense of it. But yeah, that bad ending never struck me as IC at all. :( I love being able to use him in other games, but the scenes make me cry inside. They truly do. They kinda kill the first game's integrity. :< This is why I'm dying for the novels.. I'd much rather play with their post canon than the cameo's. Man, I HOPE NOT. T_T I'm HOPING there will be some, idk, NICE new canon for them. Flonne's unpunished appearance makes me hopeful, but it might be foolishly. ;-;
Oh she actually gets pulled to the future? Man. @__@ I really can't wait to see this XD I got to rp off someone trying Mama couple times, but it's full of guessing games trying to figure out how to have him react to her. Be interesting when can see how off or on I was. XD (I seem to have a pretty good record thus far, I'm noticing o.O)

Oh lol Etna. I liked her snarky attitude in D1, but in most of her cameos I just found her to be a whiny teenager whose sole purpose in life is to satisfy her sweet tooth...saddening. I think the problem really goes back to N1 taking a gimmick of their personalities and blowing it up to huge proportions, Laharl being a spoiled brat, Etna a petty sweet seeker, and Flonne a mega otaku. They're sorta doomed to not have proper character development since they're only cameos, but it still makes me sad. You know there's something wrong when the Japanese wikipedia entry on D3 states "His treatment has worsened with each of his cameo appearances" for Laharl. Uh, D4 is like N1's last gambit, so I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that they'll get the treatment they deserve.;_;
I'll get back to you on that after I finish reading about Laharl and Lamington fighting aliens. ;)
Omake: Some Flonne & Laharl fluff from book 2(takes place after Flonne cures him of poison, Laharl is currently enjoying a pillow in the form of Flonne's legs)
"I just had a dream." Laharl closed his eyes in remembrance.
"What kind of dream?"
"I was playing with my mother...we played until I became tired and went to sleep. Then I woke up, and the first thing I saw was your face."
"I'm sorry."
"Why are you apologizing?"
"You'd prefer to see your mom, right?"
"No, how should I put it..." Laharl looked towards the distance. "This isn't too bad, either." He added silently.
"Eh?"
Flonne questioned, and Laharl stood up.
"Nothing. I should be heading back now. I have to find out who set all those traps."
"Laharl," Flonne said worriedly, "Take care of yourself."
"I know." Laharl answered, stretching out his scarf and flying away.

Then Kira sort of ruins the moment by noting how well they fit each other, except it's obvious that he doesn't mean it and is just doing it to manipulate Flonne and Etna against each other.:/

Oh man, Etna's gotten even worse than that... she was snarky but with a HEART. She had a heart under there. XD She's become a b*tch. Like. In prinny she drags Laharl off to massage her or "teach him new tricks". X_x If Etna wasn't flat, she'd prolly be high on the likely to make him think of his aunt.
But, yes, Laharl's appearances have become crappier and crappier each game. :( The idea he made any progress to become a better person seems to have gone down the sink. Hence why I play mine pre-D2. I kept PB and MK cameos for the lulz (and some of the MK one didn't bother me, like, defeating Baal in that one has him mention something about avenging his father, awww *A*) but even that I'm eh on now. He didn't seem TOOOOOO bad in what little bits of Infinite I've seen. Better than most other things.
*A*!!! Omg... I... you just totally made my morning. (After a very crappy night.) That just... awww *___* To so openly speak of his mother to Flonne... just a;osijda aww Laharl. Although, it's weird to me to think of Flonne living outside the castle. XD I always have assumed she lives there. :oa
Ruined moment though sucks. D: ...Even if it is true that they kinda do fit each other well. |D The knoooooot...

Oh man, that's news to me.x_x I had no idea the deterioration went THAT far...I've seen some theories floating around saying that she mistreats prinnies to help them reincarnate faster, which I could sorta buy into based on D1, but her cameos...just no way.
I heard about his MK appearance. It was really aww for him to even consider avenging his father(I guess he managed to bring himself to forgive Kri, just a little?), but doesn't he kill off Zetta in one of the Game Over endings to completely destroy Baal? idk the circumstances but that seemed sorta...overly aggressive? I haven't gotten past the 15h mark in DI yet(Laharl has exploded like...10 times! I'm starting to feel sorry for him!), but he does seem to stay truer to his D1 self, being visibly worried when he couldn't find Etna for a few hours and really bothered by Flonne's change of outfit.
And before that, Laharl actually thanks Flonne for offering to cure him and apologizes for causing trouble, which Flonne notes was a first.D:(although it made her so excited that she forgot that he was poisoned for a moment, much to Laharl's chagrin XD) Well, she built her own church outside the castle to preach about love and teach kid demons the value of an object by making them into figurine otakus.XD But it's a church, so she might live in the castle....idk, the novel didn't mention a bed in it or anything, just that Flonne keeps a Lamington statue in the altar and a low desk for the demons to work on their figures.
Kira is like a shipper retardant in this book. Every single chapter he goes around telling Etna/Flonne in very convincing words that they really fit Laharl, but then you realize that he got them so jealous of each other they actually started throwing magic around.:/
no subject
It gets worse too, I'm afraid. D: In D2 even her and Laharl are just... so I'LL KILL YOU, YOU LITTLE BRAT. YOU FLAT CHESTED SHREW. It just.. realllly comes off more like they're older sister and and annoying little brother. XD It pretty much has killed me shipping them. Flonne, meanwhile, sticks by him for most part. lol
Ah, I don't remember which ending it was... I don't think it was from the same one where he says "WELL time to kill the body." But I'd have to check the script again. (Gamefaqs has the script up with all the endings and dialog. ^^b) And hm he just says he has to destroy Zetta's body so they can really defeat Baal cause he keeps hopping bodies. lmao. It's a bad ending though. And oh awesome! I haven't got DI yet. want so much. ;-;
OHhhhhhhhh okay XD THAT makes sense, lmao. XDDDD And aww Laharl. XD
...Wow.
In the D2 audio drama Flonne convinces Laharl that there's a love triangle going on between Adell and him and Etna, and that's why Etna won't come back home (... which in d2 he wants her to come back to scrub his toliets, apparently. :x But I think this is the abandonment issue at play really.) But yeah... it's pretty hilarious he believes Flonne. Etna just gets caught up in the notion cause she's falling into Etna Next Time mode and seems to think it's HILARIOUS. That's about only reason she seems to let it go on. XD
OH.. and little question a friend is wondering... did the novel give an idea of how old Laharl was when his mama died? :Oa
no subject
lol what? How did Adell get involved in this mess!?
Stay with Rozalin!XDIs Flonne a shipper on deck or what? Are all the drama CDs this cracked up?It wasn't mentioned yet, but here's a little snippet of Laharl/Gwen/Flonne interaction:
The two of them walked ahead, side by side. It wasn't long before they were in deep conversation, looking as if they've known each other for a long time. Flonne has never seen Laharl smile so openly as he did now, and she couldn't help but feel a bit estranged.
"Why is Laharl smiling like that? And he's lost his arrogant attitude. I'd prefer him this way!"
Flonne muttered under her breath, unconsciously puffing her cheeks. Laharl turned around and spotted her expression.
"You hold a strange expression. What's wrong?"
"Yes! My face is strange! I'm not pretty, unlike that girl!"
"What are you talking about?" Laharl asked, confused.
"Aren't you scared of mature women?"
"As long as they're not busty, no."
At Laharl's comment, Flonne peeked at the girl in front of them and visibly relaxed. "It's true that she isn't very well endowed."
"What are you guys talking about?" The girl turned around and asked.
"N-nothing." Laharl hurriedly changed the subject. "Right, I haven't introduced myself yet, have I? I am Laharl."
"I'm Flonne."
"I'm Gwen." Flonne was deep in thought after hearing that name, she swore she heard it somewhere before. But Laharl remained unmoved and asked "How old are you?"
Gwen turned around and looked at Laharl.
"Laharl!" Flonne reprimanded Laharl angrily.
"Twenty-four."
"Any children?"
"None."
Flonne poked Laharl's back. "Laharl, it's very rude of you to ask!"
"She doesn't mind."
"Still! That's too direct, don't you think?"
"What? Are you angry?" Gwen didn't understand Flonne's anger.
"Nothing." Flonne closed her mouth.
-skip some lines-
"Is the king inside?" Laharl asked, surprised. Gwen replied with pride, "My king is always on the front lines."
"You too?"
"Of course!"
Laharl turned pale at Gwen's attitude.
"Don't. What if you die in battle?"
Flonne was shocked at his words - it didn't sound like something the ruler of the Netherworld would say, taking pleasure in the death of others might be more fitting.
But isn't caring for others also a show of love?
Flonne happily nodded her head. But somewhere in her heart, she was bothered.
"It's natural to die in battle. Of course, if the king died, I could not imagine how I would live."
Gwen smiled lightly at seeing Laharl's shock, and gently held his hands.
"Is the king that important to you?"
"Yes, he is my everything." Gwen admitted without the slightest hint of embarrassment.
"...I see." Looking crestfallen, Laharl shook his hands out of her grasp and slumped his shoulders.
Gwen lightly patted Laharl's hair. "Too bad, if you were older, I might have to compare you two."
Laharl whole-heartedly felt Gwen's light touch on his messy hair, and muttered in an inaudible voice, "That...will never happen."
Only Flonne heard his lonely voice.
She suddenly felt a searing pain in her chest, and couldn't say a word. Why do I feel such pain? Even she couldn't give an answer.

Haha Adell would love to know how he got dragged in too, I'm sure. XD The dramas range from epic to cracky. XD The D1 ones are my faves.. There's one where Vyers unknowingly at first talks to mama in prinny form we think.. and ahhh there's one Flonne tries to have a recital, but no one comes. ;-; BUT Etna and Laharl turn out to be there and Flonne just starts crying and EPIC GLOMPS Laharl. XD So cute~~~ I could prolly link you to downloads of em', if you'd be interested~ :D
O...Oh my... ahhhhhhhhh!!! *___* Oh Flonne. XD She doesn't realize who-- But Laharl so knows. Oh Laharl. ;-;
S-so much ;_;
(and so much epic appreciation for you sharing this, you have no idea ^_^ )

I think I heard a clip from it once...Flonne was singing something awful, and you can hear Laharl groaning in the background as if he's in some deep pain, then he goes "WON'T YOU STOP IT ALREADY-!?" and general smashing occurs. Aww Vyers talks to prinny mama(who, incidentally, is also voiced by Laharl!) in the drama CDs :O? They sound really interesting, I'd love to have some links.
No problem! Novels are epic stuff, they deserve to be shared.

I figure that he does have some amount of guilt over the whole thing, and it shows especially in Chapter 8. I mean, he does say "I will leave it to the one who loves him most." Even if he doesn't know about the abuse, it kind of implies that he knows there was something wrong there.
And, once again, he seems to not be dealing with anything there himself.
