As many of you may recall, Nippon Ichi wasn't exactly doing well last year.

"Fast forward to three quarters into this fiscal year (April 2010 – December 31, 2010) and Nippon Ichi Software looks like they are in better shape. The publisher reported 187,325,000 yen ($2.2 million) in operating profit for their consumer goods division.

Overall, Nippon Ichi Software still posted a net loss of 8,730,000 yen ($105,000). Losses were filed for their amusement/arcade division and a response to stock devaluations. While that sounds like bad news, compared to last year it’s actually a positive note. In 2010, Nippon Ichi Software posted a net loss of 231,213,000 yen ($2.5 million*). That’s a 96.2% decrease in net losses.

Please forgive any posting errors, as this is my first time posting to LJ. >3<;

It seems that FUNimation acquired the rights to the Disgaea anime. The first dubbed episode is available to watch online.
You can read more about it here, it's a rather short post:
blog.funimation.com/2010/09/funimation-entertainment-acquires-disgaea/
I'm kind of surprised, since it's already been released and all.. perhaps it's because NIS is in a tight spot?
If this needs to be cut or anything,  please let me know.

Don't know if this posted already...

From RPGFan,

Late last year, Nippon Ichi Software (NIS) president Souhei Niikawa told the Japanese press that his company would increase the number of PlayStation 3-based projects. In financial material released earlier today, the Gifu prefecture-based makers of Disgaea revealed that the newest installment of their flagship franchise was one of the games in the works for Sony's platform. NIS has sold more than 1.6 million copies of the Disgaea series worldwide to date.

In addition to the new Disgaea game, NIS plans to release seven games during its upcoming fiscal year, ending on March 31st 2011. Out of those eight games, six will be original titles. Going ahead, the company will carefully select games which will be published in North America by NIS America. The focus will apparently be on PlayStation 3-based software. Furthermore, NIS plans to rebuild and strengthen its presence in the mobile gaming market.

NIS singled out declining quality and problems pertaining to sales estimates as key factors contributing to its lower than expected performance during the current fiscal year. Instead of the projected 1.79 billion yen ($19.92 million USD), the company reported sales of 1.13 billion yen ($12.57 million USD). Instead of the estimated net profit of 12 million yen ($133,500 USD), NIS suffered a loss of 376 million yen ($4.18 million USD).

Financial Report

The developer behind the Disgaea series, announced its financial earnings. You may want to sit down.

In the first nine months of this financial year, the company's operating profit is down 97.5 percent.

During 2009, the company released several titles in Japan, including Makai Senki Disgaea 2 Portable, Disgaea Infinite, A Witch's Tale, Let's Hitchhike and Phantom Brave: We Meet Again.

Thoughts
I can't say I'm entirely surprised seeing how most of the titles were remakes onto new systems, and they weren't necessarily revamped either. Disgaea Infinite is a PSN only title, and I know A Witch's Tale tanked after being in development for a while. Hopefully they'll be able to bring out new titles this year.

New Art and system screenshots courtesy of Dengeki Online. It introduces Mao and Raspberyl as characters, and there's delicious art of them on the last page. :9 It looks like Disgaea Infinite has a database feature where you can look at all of their portraits and game information.

... Although, really, this game is kind of a time warp on it's own as everyone is ... the same age they were in their original games. (Which doesn't make sense at all seeing how Mao and co. meet Fallen Angel Flonne in Disgaea 3 when she's still an Angel here. What is going onnnnnn.)

Anyway, enjoy!

Oh yeah, The Raspberyl Nendoroid came out today! Mine shipped earlier last night, she's so cute omg. :(

Hi everyone! I hope you're having a good week, here's some news from the NIS front provided by Dengeki Online.

New Antiphona screenshots and character information, today the feature involves Mirabelle's prince and the duet they share. Unfortunately, it looks like her young prince has no name of his own yet.

+ There's a convinient information system in the game too. Here, you can check information on you characters, look up songs and scenes as you progress through the game. Unfortunately, all of the information won't be available right away, you'll have to continue down the game to find out more.

+ ... Apparently Toro and Kuro also have cameos in the game.

+ Antiphona will showcase all four seasons throughout the world. That's pretty neat!

The rest of the page features misc. screenshots for your eyes. :D

As for Zettai Hero Reconstruction Project or whathaveyou- there's five pages of new characters, screenshots, and gameplay content. From the ultra customizable characters to their family members, Zettai hero looks... uh, really interesting! I mean, I don't know what to say. It's just rather quirky in it's own way...

Characters featured :
- Main character! This loser is you!
- MC's Family- Dad (Mitsuo), Mom (Anko), and little sister (Choco)
- Makerennojya, the previous hero who was defeated. He watches over the main character to make sure he's not screwing up. Real name : 一文字ピロ彦
- Etoranze (Meaning : Stranger?! ) Hero Training School Instructor, apparently. That girl, yes. She yells and forces the MC to do hero drills, she's one strange heroine.

There's also a sample of some of the enemies and how battles are conducted in the game. Awesome. I'm a little confused on the battle system myself, but it looks interesting! :D

EDIT I forgot to mention:
Ar Tonelico III has been announced.

Gust’s next big game is Ar Tonelico III and it’s a PlayStation 3 exclusive. The game stars Aoto, a strapping lad who is accompanied by two reyvateils, Saki, a lab born Reyvateil on the run, and Phinnel, a pure blood Reyvateil. These characters live on a third tower known as Sol Cluster. (

RPGfan is so eloquent for information sometimes.

Nippon Ichi Software Details Last Rebellion

Nippon Ichi Software has opened the official website for its original PlayStation 3 RPG Last Rebellion. As previously announced, the game is jointly developed by Nippon Ichi Software and HitMaker.

Last Rebellion's story takes place in a world that is dominated by the power of the gods of life and death. The jobs of the Blade and the Sealer, which specialize in dealing physical and mental damage, are said to represent the power of the god of death. The power of the deity of life has a more direct impact on the world, though. It is capable of reviving the dead, including monsters. Monsters that are killed don't remain dead, but unfortunately return as more powerful, immortal beings. The only way to defeat those creatures is to destroy both their body and soul. Therefore, a Blade and a Sealer must join forces to defeat them.

Protagonist Nine is a famous Blade. The 25-year old man is cool and very blunt. 19-year old Aisha is a skilled Sealer. In the past, she couldn't control her powers and caused a major catastrophe. To prevent a re-occurrence of this terrible incident, she has been raised without any contact with the outside world. She also happens to be very proud. Alfred is Nine's step-brother. His personality is completely different from Nine's. Azelride is the country's king and a powerful wizard.

The cooperation between Blade and Sealer is not only important to Last Rebellion's story, but of even greater importance to its gameplay. To progress, the player will have to constantly switch between the two main characters. This counts not only for exploring the field map, but also for the game's turn-based battles. Conveniently enough, switching between the two characters doesn't even take up a turn. By physically attack a monster, it is possible to engrave a seal into it. This seal then becomes the target of a seal magic attack. Executing yet another physical attack allows for attacking and sealing multiple enemies or enemy parts. This strategy is essential to deal as much damage as possible to your opposition.

Last Rebellion is set to go on sale in Japan this winter. Originally announced for a North American release date of sometime this fall, an updated release date hasn't been announced yet.

From Dengeki -

Oh hey, Marjoly.

How's it going?
When did you get more clothes? Oh, no, don't tell me. Just, just do that thing you always do, thanks.

Anyway, new screenshots, new descriptions of features for the game, and a couple of new characters have been introduced. Glinda, the wife of a mysterious count, seems to also be a powerful witch. With her comes a young man with a rather unfortunate name, Sophia Rampart Marl... I think that's the only description he really needs. On the next page of the article, it speaks about the connection between Antiphona and Marl Kingdom, I think they're countries separated by a river, but I haven't looked too into it to see.

And then there's more screenshots, whoo!

Two new websites have gone up today on NIS's Japanese website today, as well as there's an update for Hymn Princess of Antiphona.

Disgaea Infinite's website will open on 9/17. I do not know what this is about, although it does show prinny art from the first Disgaea. Hmnn.

Zettai Hero Reconstruction Project's website will also go up on the 17th. Not much here yet.

Hymn Princess of Antiphona's website has topic four up on it's website. It's basically an interview with Miabelle, from what I can tell.

Other than that I'm actually really clueless on what this Disgaea Infinite project is, but here's to hoping it's more than a remake or something. If it has it's own website, it must be something big! ... Something, kinda, sorta. Maybe?

From NeoGaf :

Disgaea Infinite is a visual novel adventure using the gameplay systems from Infinite Loop, but with Disgaea characters and story instead. The new Hero game is the one that has been teased in previous designs, it's a brand new SRPG for the PSP featuring a completely customizable Power Rangers type "hero" character. You can customize his helmet, right arm, left arm feet, and options - just like you would customize a mecha. Options include stuff like wings and stuff. Looks pretty rad.

Dengeki Online posted an article for ZHRP. The main character (named by the player) is given the transformation belt by a dying man. By wearing it, he'll become the Unstoppable マケレンノジャー.

The game's dungeons are randomly generated each time you enter them. When the player acts, the enemies act, so I think it's like a Mysterious Dungeon-type game?

You'll have to use the different equipment types to get past the various types of dungeons that are generated. You have five slots to change equipment.

Thanks guys!

There's new art featured if you watch the flash trailer at the beginning of the website. You can see pages of character sketches on the bottom right of the main page, as well as information on the game. So far, Story, Characters, System, Movie(Trailer), and the lineup website are up.

Also, yes, Ryoji is still the artist of La Pucelle, as noted on the website. I'm still surprised with the direction his art has taken, but he's still in command here.

Title : La Pucelle † Ragnarok
Genre : Simulation RPG
System : PSP
Players : 1
Data Type : UMD
Release Date : Nov. 26, 2009
Price : 50 USD for the REGULAR edition, 70 USD for the LIMITED edition.
Rating : [C] (Fifteen years and above)
Composer : Tenpei Sato
Artist : Ryoji

Limited Edition includes a 36 Page Artbook and the Complete Soundtrack for La Pucelle.

Here's a look into Nippon Ichi Software's latest Royal(?)RPG, Last Rebellion.

As featured on Game Watch, there's a few screenshots so far but it looks rather nice. It's a completely 3D action RPG game and so far they've introduced two characters, Nine and Aisha to be playable. To be honest, it almost looks like an MMO from the battle screenshots, seems like you can run around in free form.

Last Rebellion will be out later this year but no exact date has been announced.

Also, Phantom Brave Wii came out yesterday in most stores in the United States. Rejoice! I'm going to go play it now.

Japanese Articles on Dengeki Online : 1 2

Hymn Princess of Antiphona incorporates musical events in it's story scenes. Much like Rhapsody, it's based on a mix of light-hearted scenes with hidden meanings to them. What are the themes in this game? We may find that out once the game is officially released, but for now let us break down information about the game that has been brought to light.

Story

The story of Hymn Princess of Antiphona revolves around three sisters who love music very much. The main character of this story is Miabelle, the youngest sister of the three. These three girls love music very much, and it seems like Lily, Miabelle's eldest sister, is set to become a song priestess due to her heavenly voice. The story of this game involves an overlord's fascination with Lily's voice.

The kingdom they live in is called something like the Echoing Country of Antiphona, アンティフォナ響国, Antiphona hibiki kuni. It seems that every resident in this world has their heart, their energy, their very soul spun into music. It is their way of life. Songs and music are used as a form of electricity, a powerful source of energy to be harvested and used. According to Dengeki, Lily is set to be the Song Angel of their world.

Much like Rhapsody, this world uses puppets or marionettes to aid people on their quests.

Characters

Miabelle Drofa
- Youngest daughter of the trio, she always has a look of determination and longing on her face. She seeks many dreams and she loves music very much. She loves her family more than anything.

Kulala Drofa (Unsure on how the first name will be translated..)
- Middle child of the trio, she gets along very well with her sister Miabelle. She does things at her own pace and seems to be rather laidback. On her head is her puppet, Lenton. He seems to hold an eccentric sort of energy.

Clef
- Miabelle's guide and mentor, he seems to be a sort of ... puppet himself?! Most puppets are not as well built as he is, but he is still in essence only a man-made doll. His speech can be awkward at times, and he was created by a world famous doll maker. His model is exceptionally rare.

Freshia and Animatt(?)
- Freshia is Kulala's classmate and friend, she's the straight man of the group. Her emotions are upfront and she can be a loud one, but she's always true to her words. She's blessed in the art of composing, apparently? Her puppet is the vigorous and energetic Animatt who's a boy model puppet.

Ignatz
- Lily's classmate from their days at school. He seems to have some sort of famed house but I can't tell whether he's trying to run away from it or be holed up inside of it? 家出中

Overlord Auros
- Stole Lily's beautiful voice?! He seems to devestate churchs and produce large outbreaks of monsters in their land. He doesn't seem like a very nice guy.

Lily Drofa
- Her voice was stolen by Overlord Auros at the big song festival of their kingdom. Her voice is heavenly, but it seems her sisters will have to help her get it back at this point.

That's it for now! I hope that was helpful for some of you. I apologize for the lack of updates as of late, there's been a lot going on with NIS and I'll post soon about any updates and images I may have missed in the past few weeks. Thank you for sticking with us for so long, if you guys have any questions or comments please feel free to tell me. I'm very novice at Japanese right now, so if there's anything you'd like to add I would gladly edit this post to include it.

Thanks so much everyone!

I'm a little disappointed at there being no new art at all, as the cut in's image is about five years old but it's better than nothing, right? Either way, I'm really excited for this month's dlc (for rather obvious reasons if you know me.)

Website is up and ready. All sections have been updated and there's even a trailer and a sample of the music that'll be in the game. It's totally Rhapsody all over again.

Oddly enough, the story really does seem to focused around an Overlord anyway. Oh, NISAmerica, you crazy demon loving... lovers.

Also, RPGfan posted a small article on the new NIS PSP game Hymn Princess of Antiphona: Angel's Score Op. A.

Nippon Ichi Software is working on a new strategy RPG for PlayStation Portable. Titled Antiphona no Seikahime: Tenshi no Gakufu Op.A, the game will be reminiscent of Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure (and other games in the Marl's Kingdom series), as these games will share the "music" theme. In the world of Antiphona, music can be transformed into magic. The game's protagonist, a young girl by the name of Miabel, has to find a way to bring back the voice of her sister, which was stolen by the Demon King. The musical theme, however, won't be limited to the story, but also feature heavily in the gameplay. Event scenes, for instance, will feature dancing and singing not unlike a musical performance. Be it standard conversations or important event scenes, Antiphona will offer full voice acting. The game is scored by NIS' veteran composer Tenpei Sato.

And while I'm at it, here's a summary of what NISA's newsletters have been about in the past week, provided by RPGamer :

Fresh from Anime Expo, NIS America released some solid news about a few titles they have been quiet about. First off, Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love, due out this fall on PlayStation 2 and Wii, will be released as a premium package. This special release will feature two discs, one with English voices and one with the original Japanese. Along with containing two discs, this tactical RPG will come with a special cover art, and most importantly, will retail for only $39.99.

Hot on the heels of that announcement came confirmation of a North American release for Atelier Annie: Alchemists of Sera Island. While RPGamer had revealed info prior to this announcement, it's now official. This Nintendo DS RPG will have players not only fighting in a unique tactical combat system, but building a resort while collecting items for alchemy. This hybrid game will be available in October 2009.

NIS America has also announced that a trophy patch for Disgaea 3 will be released on PSN on July 16. This patch will add more than 50 trophies, but current saved data will not be usuable with this patch, so players will have to start over to obtain them. For a list of trophies, click here.

RPGamers who pre-order Phantom Brave: We Meet Again can still obtain the Japanese Original Soundtrack: Sato Tenpei's Selection. This sampler includes ten songs as well as a tray card containing the Japanese lyrics for two of the songs in the game. This bonus is limited to the first 500 customers and is only available here.

Finally, NIS America is hiring a script editor. If you are interested in jumping into the gaming industry more details are available on the company's main employment page.

Finally : A Witch's Tale is up for Pre-Order at Gamestop. I don't know what Rosenqueen is planning with it's preorder sales, but for those eager to preorder it already it's available on the online website for Gamestop. Someone needs to tell Gamestop that Koei is not the publisher for these games. Oh well!
