Warnings: As always, Yomawari is a horror series, so please proceed with caution when clicking through any links to the main site. On the other end of the spectrum for Disgaea RPG, the Arrogant Overlord-styled Petta event unit is... well, she's dressed like Laharl, so discretion is advised.

... have I been spelling Kamiwaza incorrectly this whole time???

Thank you all for your patience! We've got an extra-long newsletter this time, including some key announcements from September mentioned at the top of the post. The Disgaea 7 collector's edition is gorgeous, and the Mad Rat Dead pins are very stylish - strongly recommend giving them a look!

And that's the week in review, thank you for your patience! An additional note that due to personal events, the following week's muckrake will be delayed. (If not by a day, then it'll likely be a double-week report.) All that aside, congratulations on GrimGrimoire's re-release, fifteen years after the original!

The rest of the week in review. )

And that's the round up for this week, running a little late! Anything catch your eye? This will be the first time the west has gotten La Pucelle: Ragnarok, as previously it was a Japan-only re-release for the PSP. Rhapsody has gotten re-released in the west before, but... perhaps we should politely look the other way on that one and hope this time will be better.

This was apparently posted on 10/24, but I didn't see it until now. Everyone affected by this incident deserves to read the letter.

To our Consumers,

You may have read or heard that Rhapsody ~A Musical Adventure~ is missing additional post-game content that was included in the Japanese version of the game. If you've
seen any of the stories that have been printed lately, you're probably more than a little concerned. Let me share with you what has happened; hopefully it will ease some of
your concerns.

Originally Rhapsody for DS was not intended to be released in the United States.
While the game is popular among hardcore gamers, the project itself was extremely
difficult to bring over to the United States. However, our fans have been asking for Rhapsody from NIS America, and therefore we had to bring this title over to show our
appreciation for all the great support. But in order to bring the title over, we had to
make the hard decision not to add the post-game chapters from the game. We believed bringing the main game over was the top priority for a full gaming experience, especially
for those who have played the original, and in order to do we had to decide not to add
the extra chapters. It was a painful decision to make, but it was necessary to release
Rhapsody. Unfortunately, this information failed to reach our public relations department.
So the information from the original Japanese game went up on the website and
interviews, even though the content itself was not there. There were a number of
crossed wires and misunderstandings, and we deeply regret that these mistakes led to
such an outcome. We never intended to deceive or lie to anyone regarding this matter;
it was simple human error. We went to great lengths to bring Rhapsody over and we
hope you can understand our situation.

We pride ourselves on our customer satisfaction and fan interaction, and we offer our deepest apologies for the confusion. It was never our intent to mislead or deceive you.
It doesn't fix the issue, but please understand that it was an honest mistake on our
part, and one that we are going to work very hard to ensure doesn't happen again.

How annoying.

---

From RPGFan :

In what is probably the biggest blunder of their career as a publisher, NIS America has cut content from a recent release despite having advertised the content's existence.

Even as I'm posting this news article, if you check the official site for the DS port of Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure, there is talk of "additional content" in the characters section of the site, regarding female characters Cherie and Elly. This "additional content" was extracted from Angel's Story, the third game in the Marl's Kingdom series. And sure enough, after you beat the Japanese version of the DS game and save the clear data, a new option appears in the main menu that allows you to enjoy this content.

As a reviewer, I had not been made aware of this bonus content, as I had played the game at the same time of the Japanese release, and before NISA's official site for the game had been opened. As such, I was extremely pleased with the game, giving it high marks and an editor's choice award. But at the time of release, gamers who finished the game and saved the "game clear" content looked to the official site, as well as import gamers, to find out "what's next." When they found out there was some additional content to be unlocked, but they were unable to access it, message boards around the Internet went nuts trying to find the solution. A variety of theories were proposed, most being that NIS America had poorly programmed the game and the content was hiding behind a "glitch." After all, some purchasers of the game were running into other game-freezing glitches as they played.

Having stood behind the product so fervently, I felt it my responsibility to get to the root of the issue. After nagging every contact I had at NIS America, I received the following email detailing the nature of the problem.

NISAmerica's Response and Reactions )

My thoughts :
I think that's awful. There's a lot of problems here and I don't even know where to begin. Some copies of Rhapsody DS were glitched to begin with (not by this glitch, but by the fact it won't work past a certain point for some people!) and with this added I think it was a wise choice I just kept with my PSX version of the game.

Rhapsody DS had a lot of potential, but it was rushed to the point where it's severely lacking in everything? I can understand keeping out the tracks, I can understand keeping the game entirely in Japanese because of the new tracks, but now we won't even get those new tracks? What was the point of keeping the game in Japanese then? What was the point of rushing this game out so fast?
:\

Thank you everyone for all the input earlier regarding the glitch. I got all the way to the end on my new copy and I definitely had a lot of fun getting there (I just wished that I had access to Kururu during the final battle. She's freakin' goddess in this game.)

But I noticed on Gamefaqs that there's been a bit of a problem regarding the new adventure and that extra mode. Anyone know what's going on or if you've managed to access the extra content?
[identity profile] burnfist23.livejournal.com
So I was playing Rhapsody DS and I was loving up until a few minutes after Cornet and Etoile sing "Let's Go On" when the screen blacks out and the game just completely stops. Is there a way around this or do I have to go and get a new copy?
[identity profile] charmwitch.livejournal.com
Soul Cradle sold enough copies to warrant a Best Price reprinting, it's new price will be 2,800 Yen and it will be released on September 25th of this year. You go, Soul Cradle!

In other news!
September 23rd is the official release date for Disgaea DS and Rhapsody DS in North America! They will both be priced at 29.99 + Tax. I'm going to pick up Rhapsody again, though I'm a little sad that there's only Japanese songs in the game I can always go back and listen to the US ones on Youtube. :<

Finally, do you draw fan art for Nippon Ichi and related games? If so:

Zombie Jamboree is our very own NIS-inspired Oekaki board. If you're interested, go ahead and doodle and join up! We'd love to see new artists and just have a hub for our small fandom to participate in. ♥

Just letting everyone know that the official websites for Disgaea DS and Rhapsody are now up. Story and character info among others is what is available right now. Also, the USA Disgaea 3 website received a small update in the form of a geo block tutorial video.

... I must admit, I haven't seen the use of "Alcohol References" in an ESRB warning for a very long time. I'm thinking it's NPC dialogue? If that's so, they should talk about all the sexual harassment these characters go through...!! "Mild Suggestive Themes" my butt...

Uh. It's pretty much looking like the Japanese site, but in ~*~English~*~! Whoo! Take a look! One month until D3 comes out! :D

Also, Rhapsody for DS proves that Cornet's mom is still as busty as ever. Whoo! I mean, new art! Whoo!

Tidbits :

- A New Disgaea 3 novel was released this week in Japan. 306 pages, seems to be a novelization of the game from Almaz's point of view.

- The Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice guidebook is up for reservation at DoubleJump Books. Reserve a copy if you haven't already. ♥

- AnimeExpo was a blast this year. I got to see [livejournal.com profile] shinhawk and lots of fans as well as Mr. Harada. Delicious signatures. *A* You can see pictures I took of the event here, and Mr. Harada's pictures here.

- I've also been working on the Heart Bank Blog for those of you curious of Disgaea 3 updates and the so forth.

- Disgaea DS and Rhapsody DS are scheduled to be released sometime in September. They're still not pre-orderable.

I'm thinking of updating the link list of [livejournal.com profile] cyberdance. If there's anything you guys want to link, please tell me. In fact, if you have any questions or concerns, please don't be afraid to ask here. Thanks, guys.

Heads Up.

The Disgaea 3 Wiki is full of ingame story spoilers.
If you're trying to keep yourself unspoiled, I would steer clear. The article needs to be cleaned up and properly marked, which it isn't right now.

In other news, the Press Release for NISA was this week. It was a great blast. Rhapsody DS, Disgaea DS, A Witch's Tale, and Disgaea 3 : Absence of Justice were the highlights at the event.

There were also many, many prinny kurtis everywhere.

It was a lot of fun. ♥

Disgaea 3: Absensce of Justice's release date is August 28th, 2008.
