I am wondering, has anyone here read the light novels? I fell upon an entry on TV Tropes regarding them, and it blew my mind. I have burning questions and am illiterate in Japanese. Is there anyone out there?

And if this is not allowed, please do not hesitate to slap me. D:

I read on TV tropes that Laharl's Aunt Yasurl/Yasuruu is responsible for Laharl's aversion to busty women. What exactly did she do to him?! D:

Implied heavy abuse. Laharl's resistance to poison was thanks to her trying that trick on him a few hundred years ago. As Etna jokingly put it, "Thank your aunt~"

I'm seriously of the opinion now, as much as Laharl's anti-love was formed from his mother's death, clearly Krichevskoy epic failed during this time as a father as well. lol

lol, not to mention the fact that his dad died before he even fell asleep and he was the only one who didn't know. Even the reasons. It seems like most of the vassals had SOME idea of how he really died (as in: not by food), Etna sans memories not included, EXCEPT Laharl.

Well, what the game does tell us is when the queen died, he split the earth in two... Soooo... it's reasonable to assume he was pretty entrenched in his own grief to give the attention his son so very needed. While he believes Laharl's answer of hate is 'a demon answer', there is certainly a sense there's more going on than just that, lol

Not to get all srs bzns here, but many a good parent has not noticed their child being abused by other adults who may be relatives, spouses, or other trusted friends. It is not a reflection on the parent; a lot of children will actually hide the evidence themselves, and outright lie, sometimes in order to protect their abuser. As a child they've been taught that adults are always in the right, and often they feel ashamed, or as though they've done something wrong and they deserve the abuse. It gets more complicated than that, and there are many types of abuse, but... yeah.

This being Disgaea, I am again sorry to bring the serious business to the table; I also don't know the other details about this particular plot, and the other comments on this post make it seem like there is a lot I'm missing. But! A good parent can sometimes not notice their child being abused. A good parent, however, once they find out, needs to take responsibility, provide love and acceptance for their child, and help their child heal.

Absent and in lala land. It was just a while after Gwen(Laharl's mom)'s death, so I guess he's off somewhere mourning or sth, haven't read to that part yet.

The main thing is, he left Laharl in care of his aunt....who pretty much thinks humans are lower than dirt and believes his blood is 'soiled'.

Yeah, horrible things ensued. Laharl is still suffering some trauma from it.

... o___O Novel canon may =/= game canon, but that really DOES fit with the huge hate Laharl has for his old man, wow. We figured Vyers must have really failed as a dad back then... that makes that assumption fit even better.

She doesn't dare outright abuse him right now, but she is vehemently trying to plan his downfall and very open about her dislike of him. She knows that Laharl hasn't gotten over his past yet, so she's quite apt at taking advantage of that and plays psychological games with him, because she knows she can't win in an actual fight(and that's not her style).

But yeah, now that I've read the novels, every time his fear of busty women comes up in the game it ends up as a Funny Aneurysm Moment for me. :/

And, um, sorry if I'm bothering you by butting in like this, but I've been curious for awhile. Is it Vesuvio or Yasurl who is Krichevskoy's sibling? I mean, Vesuvio looks similar to Krichevskoy in some of the recent art of him, but at times it looks like Yasurl has the antennae.

My money is on Yasurl being Krichevskoy's blood sibling! I....don't really know my reasoning...XD;;

Well, it's more the fact that Yasurl reminded me a lot of Etna in terms of looks, so the fact that she's pulling something like that... I guess part of it depends on the circumstances?

See, I've always wanted to know more about them, but can't find the information anywhere. XD And I don't know enough Japanese yet to be able to read much of anything, otherwise I'd grab them up for myself in a heartbeat. I especially would love hearing what kind of information they have on Mama and the whole Angel!Vyers thing, but considering how he's my favorite character... that's probably to be expected. 8D;;

I can kind of see it going either way. Though Yasurl being to Krichevskoy what Etna is to Laharl is kind of an amusing thought to me.
